Reports: Packers Will Not Allow Brett to Compete for Quarterback Position

BREAKING NEWS

We are receiving reports that Green Bay will, in fact, not allow Brett Favre to compete for the starting quarterback position as he had been promised by the Packers and has been widely reported by the media.

Rather, reports are now coming in that Mike McCarthy is encouraging Brett to be traded away from the Packers - most likely to the Vikings or Bears - rather than giving him an opportunity to compete with Aaron Rodgers.

In response ESPN reports that Brett Favre was quoted as saying: "So they can say they welcome me back but, come on, the way they've treated me tells you the truth. They don't want me back ... I don't know where it's headed. We'll see."

We knew it was trouble when the Packers hired former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer for the next month.  You generally don't need a PR consultant if you're planning to do the right thing.

Join over 17,500 fans and sign the petition to help restore Brett Favre to his rightful place as the Packers starting quarterback in 2008.  Fans must keep the pressure on Green Bay Packer management to ensure that Brett is not mistreated at training camp or traded to the Vikings!

Everyone needs to go to training camp and rally for Brett. I am taking off of work to do so today. They need to know that we want him here in GB and not in Chicago or Minn. What is the matter with these three stooges. Can't someone get the Board of Directors to do something about this? We are becoming the laughing stock of the country, even thinking of trading a quarterback of Brett's caliber. Someone has to do something to stop this. You can call the Packer Office in the phone book and they will let you leave a message. Please do so NOW. Pat

What happened to:?

"Brett’s path here has been different, but he’s earned the right. He wants to play football, he should be allowed to play football, I don’t have any problem with that."

Sounds like McCarthy likes to use big words to deflect the fact that his full of s***.

why is all of this ok for this organization to make decisions based on personal feelings??? All i keep hearing is they're doing what's in the best interest of the packers but this is absolutely bull. They're doing what's in the best interest of mike and tt. this has to stop! their antics should not be allowed to continue.

TT and MM have unfortunately made it clear over and over again that they not only don't want Brett but can't be trusted not to scr# him over.

It doesn't make any sense to the team or to Brett but I don't want to see Brett have to bow down to these morons.

I say free Brett Favre and let him play somewhere where he is respected and treated well.

I give up on the Packers until a major management change happens and even then, I will still remember the disgusting treatment of our HOF QB Brett.

Enough is Enough - Free Brett Now !!!

You know, here's a question? I've heard a few people on this site talk about the lack of class the packers have shown to brett. Why did Rodgers get booed on Sunday? First of all, it was FAMILY NIGHT. Secondly, it was an intersquad scrimage. And finally, like he has anything to do with this. Put yourself in his shoes, he was drafted in the first round, put behind a legend for three years, the legend retired and now its your turn. The legend decides to come back but has a battle with management and now your getting booed. Doesn't make any sense.

Yesterday a guy was arguing that free agents wouldn't want to come here based on how we treated favre. The reason they wouldn't come is because we boo our own players on family night.

I can't imagine anyone who is on the "packers side" of this situation booing A-Rod, so I imagine it mostly came from those Favre militia types.

Granted there were those comments he had in SI, but big deal.

Isn't Favre one of the greatest QB's of all time. The Packers clearly aren't in the business of winning because if they were this whole situation would have been done with the day Favre said I am 100% committing to play. Sorry Rodgers but in the world of competitive sports the BEST PLAYER PLAYS!!!!

Unbelievable! Why is the Management allowed to do this? Everyone must be there today! Call, fax, call, fax! Brett, YOU MUST SHOW UP FOR PRACTICE TODAY! DO NOT GIVE UP!

We live in Florida and we wish we could get to the practice today to show our support for Brett. We are embarrassed and appalled in how the GB management is treating Brett Favre. GB management should be fired. Since we can't get to GB from Florida today - we are faxing and calling!!!

The shareholders need to unit and oust the Packer Management (Murphy, Thompson) These two guys are pulling the puppet McCarthy's strings. This entire situation is an ego problem on their part. We need to unite and push this before he is traded! Please help how do we get the ball rolling on this? The Packer management has taken a dump on the legacy of the Packers. Even the old-time hall of famers are confused.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTedtheclown

If you want to do something start CALLING the Packers and leaving messages and more importantly (this is what we do to our Senators/Congressman)

Send FAXES to them. Keep them short, sweet.

Something like

I am a PACKER FAN AND WANT BRETT FAVRE as MY starting quarterback.

Then start faxing...clog the fax lines, we could conceiveably send thousands there...

Just a thought.

I have heard they do not.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMari

As I attended shareholder meetings these past couple of years, it became clear that Teddie and Mikey want to build their own legacy, and that clearly did NOT include Favre.

But who built this new house? And who helped bring the PACK out of decades of "holding up the rear" to taking the lead in the NFL? Now we are letting the three stooges throw Brett under the bus.

I feel like going inside Lambeau and tearing my stone plaque off the wall.....this is so sad

Let's stop this nonsense! Let the shareholders vote!

Bill Borchardt GOPACKGO

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBill Borchardt

We be a shareholder if we do not have a voice? The ballot:
1. Do you want the gunslinger as your starting QB?
2. Do you want Ted the clown and Murphy terminated?

There is an easy solution to this problem; give him his helmet back and make him the starter. Make him mentor the two younger guys and trade Rodgers for a first round pick. How can TT, MM, and MM think they will keep their jobs after this. When it is all done and said the Pack management will be gone and so will our ledgend

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTedtheclown

Yes, we are becoming the laughing stock of the country. By we I mean Packer FANS! I travel a lot all over and have been listening to talk show hosts talk about how rediculous Packer fans are for booing Rodgers after one scrimmage. Anybody remember how Rodgers and Farve did in the Dallas game last year?

Honestly people, do you have golden statues of Brett that you burn incense and pray to every morning? There are things management has done that have bothered me but I know many Packer fans who have grown increasingly tired of Brett trying to tell management which criminals to bring in for him to throw to, and what coaches to hire. I truly understand why management has had enough of the emotional roller coaster that this guy brings with him.

Let's make no mistake about this. It was not Brett Farve who was responsible for bringing in several key players from the 3rd to 7th rounds who actually have character that led even Brett to refer to this team as "the most talented" he's ever played with. It was those supposed idiots TT and MM. So let's all run them out of town and let them turn another team into a winner through the draft. Then we can spend years licking our wounds and wondering what happened.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBForm

To hire a White House mouthpiece to 'handle' the fallout from this?

Look at all the lies Fletcher handled for Bush and where those have gotten our country ultimately...

Yes, the Packers are now out of control.

How can anyone even want to CHEER for the Pack anymore?

HIRING A BUSH$CO mouthpiece? There goes the neighborhood...but he can spin anything!

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterWinston

I am so shocked and so sad :( He spent his life with the Packers and this is the way they are treating him??? It is disgusting and TT needs to hang his hat, because he is behind all this, his ego is behind all this. It is embarrassing to be a Packer fan at this moment and time. Brett Favre gave 16+ years of his life to the Packers, he and his wife gave to the community and this is how they are treated???? Someone get rid of Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy, can't the board have them fired or something??? They need to get rid of these ego heads whose decisions are not based on integrity, intelligence or rational, it is so sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLoran

May as well shut down this site. It looks to be all but over. I cannot even believe it. How did people like this ever get control of the Packer organization?

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterW L

I for one will boycott all Packer games this
year if Brett is traded away.

The brewery and network big wigs should be calling the Packer Management to tell them to pull their heads out of their collective a$$es. Favre is the biggest draw for MNF viewership!

I expect McCarthy and Thompson to be looking for jobs soon.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHereb

Stockholders must unite now.The only way to stop this is owner pressure. The Packer management will destroy the goodwill earned for 16 years. Stockholders must united for an emergeny meeting to take control of their team. It is not owned by Ted, Mike, and Mark. If emergency action is not taken he will no longer be a Packer. Reports are that is the direction this is heading. Unite at Packer headquarters before any trade action can be completed. This is urgent if you are a owner. I am not or I would be on my way now! The commissioner seems to do nothing right, Fans and owners are all that is left!

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterbobwhite

We need to get a hold of the GB press and the Journal Sentinel and get this shareholders meeting going! MM, MM, TT need to be gone by sundown.

Teddy better take that clown car out of town at sundown if Favre get traded. I am down in Chicago, I wish I were close I would be at the field. 2 bucks they close practices to the public?

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTedtheclown

It's amazing that so many people are unaware that Favre wants out of Green Bay (and has since March) as badly as Packers management want Rodgers to start on September 8.

The Packers should give him what he's wanted for 6 months: trade him to the Vikings, get what they can for him.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMindy

I am sorry it didn't work out for you guys. I would have to say today is the last day Brett will be a Packer. You put up a good fight though.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRedskins Fan

Do you people really think that Brett Favre cares where he plays next year? Do you really think that Favre cares about any of you as much as you care about him? Its time to move on. Anyone who is so mad that they are actually leaving on their way to Green Bay needs to find a hobby or make some friends. He might be here this year or he might not, but either way, life goes on. The sooner you all realize that this is just a football player and this decision has no real impact on your lives, the better off we all will be.

This public service announcement has been brought to you by the Green Bay society for a better life in Green Bay and all of Wisconsin and even the areas surrounding it which includes Chicago.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterGladys

So what was the welcome back plan that MM and Teddy had for Brett. Did I miss something?

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTedtheclown

Brett said today "And I truly understand that if I was in Mike's shoes, I'd see it basically the same way he sees it, I'm sure. And I think if he was in my shoes, he'd see it my way. I think we both agree on that."

Even Brett is being more reasonable about this situation than you guys are. Any of you looking to sell your season tickets? Please?

Looks like Brett may be going to Tampa. Even so, the Packers will still be sold out all year long, even if all 17,000 of you give up your season tickets.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBForm

Thank, Teddie, in two quick years you changed my life. Now, where do I go to get these PACKER plates removed from my car?

Oh, I see, I must first pray to Teddie......

So long, PACK, you were a good friend

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBill Borchardt

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterncman

Tony,

Do you even read any of the stories on FoxSports or ESPN??? Both McCarthy and Favre agreed that it will cause a distraction if he still played for them and Favre even said that he wants Rodgers to start instead.

Look up the stories BEFORE you post. It's that simple.

are you drugged? brett farve said he couldn't get over his anger at packer management and did not want to play for green bay. he was given the chance to play for the team and by his own admission declined the offer. brett turned down the offer to rejoin the team and compete for the quarterback job-not the other way around.
