McCarthy Uses Fancy PR Talk in Press Conference

Listening to Mike McCarthy's signature line from this afternoon's press conference - that Brett Favre is "not in right mind-set" to play for the Packers - it is clear that he has had some first rate public relations (PR) coaching from the former White House press secretary Green Bay recently hired.

To break the fancy PR code this is simply a less than straightforward way of saying that Brett Favre will not agree to allow the Green Bay Packers to bench him in favor of playing Aaron Rodgers.

Brett Favre is right to stand his ground in his unwillingness to sit on the bench after an MVP year just because he thought he might want to retire a few months ago.  It is a slap in the face of unspeakable magnitude.  However, that resistance puts him in the wrong "mind-set" to play for Green Bay when you use PR-ese.

PR-ese?  It is fancy double talk and deceptive practices that are turning Packer fans from sad to angry in short order.  Our website has received a flood of traffic, petition signatures, and comments, as well as private email messages pleading with us to switch our petition from "Save Brett" to "Fire the Three Stooges - Thompson, Murphy, and McCarthy."

This type of behavior - no matter how pretty you paint the words around it - just isn't how the good people of Wisconsin wish to be represented to the rest of the world.  It is not our way.  Unfortunately, Aaron Rodgers will likely hear the "boos" that are directed at this type of deceptive practice and not at him personally.

Sign the petition in protest of this terrible decision by the Green Bay Packers management.  Here's to hoping that our source is wrong!

So, how do we remove Ted Thompson? Can't we get all of the shareholders to one site where they can voice their opinions as shareholders? What is the process to have Ted Thompson removed? Someone needs to provide detail as to the direction that everyone needs to move in order for this to happen...ASAP.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterfireted

It is very obvious. It isn't that Favre doesn't want to play for the Packers. It is that he doesn't want to play for Ted Thompson. Lets get rid of Ted and solve the problem.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPackerBacker

I think you're way off-base with your assessment of McCarthy's press conference. If you've read Favre's own comments he admits that he's not ready to rejoin the team. Any coach who lets someone like that on the field is asking for trouble.
You are also off-base when you say Favre "will not agree" to be #2 behind Rodgers. Favre has NO SAY in the matter what-so-ever. Anyone who thinks he does, doesn't know what the position of "head coach" means. Favre has two and only two options: retire, or report to GB and do whatever they tell him to do. Period.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNanook

Wow Tony, you type alot on this blog without saying anything original. Keep regurgitating what everyone else says.

McCarthy is better than you. He's the man. He's the one controlling this situation. Brett is a puppet and will do what Mike says.

Brett is a traitor and will be gone soon enough. You hayseeds who support him are nothing but rubes.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBetter Than Tony

Very well said.....its amazing how many people in WI are buying the double talk and twisting Brett's words to match Mike MaCarthy. You speak the truth!!!!......I feel sorry for those who are too dumb to see it.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAnn

SEND FAVRE TO TAMPA BAY !!!!!!

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTHE MAN

Fire TWITT THOMPSON !!!!!!

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTHE MAN

"...he thought he might want to retire a few months ago."

Uh, no. He retired. Then changed his mind afte rthe team had already decided its path on the starting QB and even drafted another QB high up in the draft. Bo--hoo, Farve. Even though I'm not a Packer fan, I respected the guy...well, till now.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHH9

How can anyone trust McCarthy.

Most everything out of Packer management has been a lie:

"Welcome Brett back",
"Let him compete"
"Deserves the right to play"

McCarthy's short and illustrious career in the NFL is over. Soon Thompson and McCarthy will be turning on each other, continuing to destroy the Packer franchise and fan base in the process.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNew Land of 0en

I'm sorry guys but this site is a bunch of crap. The media picks up on stuff like this for the same reason they blow everything else out of proportion. RATINGS! The more controversy they can create the more important they think they are to the world. 17,000 signatures. Wow! Aren't you guys important.

Gee, why doesn't the board do something? Could it be that they know what even many Packer fans know? His days were numbered in the NFL and it's time to move on. Oh but Brett's been the martyr for Green Bay? Funny thing is martyrs don't get paid 12 million.

I don't hate Brett and I'm thankful to have had him as our QB for all these years. But I have been growing tired of his jacking with the organization and forgetting who runs the place. He lets his emotions run rampant and doesn't talk like a seasoned veteran with wisdom. I would have hated having Randy Moss in Green Bay even if it would have won a Super Bowl. Who wants to win with criminals.

We may be proud to be cheeseheads, but I think the rest of the country is starting to see Packer fans as cream cheeseheads.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBForm

Tony, as a PR professional, I find your ignorance of what we do and how we do it patently offensive. The bright side? Your 15 minutes of fame is fast approaching its merciful end.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJohn Brockington

Remember how Brett played in the years before the so-called morons (TT and MM) gave Brett "the most talented team I've ever played with"? I remember hearing lots of Packer fans saying it was time for him to move on.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBForm

The person whoes days are numbered in the NFL is TED THOMPSON.

Why don't we get rid of him.

If the argument is centered around winning games: keep Brett Favre.

If the argument is centered around ego: Get rid of Ted Thompson.

If the argument not destroying the Packer fan base: keep Brett Favre.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBForm

By far the worst press confrence ever. Easy to see through.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRedskins Fan

so how bout that trade to tampa that was finalized over 4 hours ago...

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergrizz

So how do we as shareholders get Ted and Mark Murphy removed? It may be too late but they still need to go. The question none of the reports asked was is this beef more with Ted or Mike McCarthy. If Ted was not in the picture would this be over? Shareholders unite.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTedtheclown

Although I highly doubt it, Ted Thompson could be run out of town. However, he will then bring a winning team to someone else at our loss. I believe management has probably made mistakes in this whole circus. Probably because they were worrying too much about PR issues with people who wear green and gold bratwurst as earings.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBForm

Thank you Tony for supporting Brett!!! All of the Ted Thompson fans need to watch ESPN to see just exactly what the rating of their #1 quarterback is.....that'll explain to them why they have 2 rookie backups to Rogers and are all saying good bye to Brett with an attitude that would embarass their mothers.
The Packers had a championship run this year with Brett Favre under center - right now they have alot of talent on the team with alot of experience - except for the Q-back. I guess the GB management sees something that no one else can. Even Tiger Wood said he could understand why Brett would want to play again - what he doesn't understand is why the Packers don't want him back. And it is not because he flip flopped back in March -
I will follow Brett wherever he is going - and wish the Packers luck - because they will need it - and so will Ted Thomson.
Again Tony - Thankyou!!

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterClaudia

MIke McCarthy and Ted Thompson are both assholes. If they made Brett feel welcome from day one we wouldn't have to see Brett go to Tampa or wherever he ends up.

Firs Ted and dip shit Mike!

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTodd R.

umm... all i got to say is that Brett Favre needs to stay in green bay and play for the packers... and that we need to get rid of the dumb manager ted thomas if we did that we would have our problems solved we would have Brett favre back and ever thing i mean ever thing would be GREAT and we need to trade aaron rogers ... i also think brett does not needed to be traded at all not even to the buccuners im sorry to say but... its true and all i got to say is that umm... i think Brett should be welcome back better than how he was and i think that there is way more fans of brett than there is of stupid aaron rogers I LOVE you BRETT FAVRE and I WANT You to PLaY FOR the TEAM that you have been on for 16 years ithink that brett favre is the best querter back in history which i know thats true and i think we all want brett for querter back not rogers sorry to say but... its kinda true if you ask me!!!!

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commenteri want brett back!!!

Fox 6 puppet Pippen just reported that Favre "wasn't fit to play".

I love how most of the local media sides with the Packers management out of fear of being "cut off" from future interviews.

Any wonder why the Favre camp has avoided the local shills?

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNewsNut

All i have to say is as big PACKERS fan I wish this season choke and the circus will get even bigger!!! Go luck Brett where ever you end up... i may just have to change teams too!!

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCT from California

Brett....if you really want to play them MAKE Ted trade you to VIKINGS and win a Super Bowl!!

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCT from California

"Favre not in 'right mindset' to play for Packers"......i wonder why??? Because Packers Staffs make him feel that way!!

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCT from California

I heard about this website & thought I better check it out. Sorry to say, but this website and many of the postings here are a joke. All of the energy being wasted over something like this?? Come on people! Brett has been wishy-washy for so many years, I'm tired of him making decisions on HIS schedule...when HE is ready. Oh the life! He is not in charge. If he truly wants to come back, he should have gave more thought to his announcement earlier this year. He was not pressured. He's Favre - remember? The game revolves around him! I truly don't think he knows what he wants. I've watched many GB football games & I could care less if he gets traded or not. You want him to come back and play one more year and have a big goose egg of a year? That sure would leave us all proud to be GB packer fans! His name is already tarnished because of this. He needs to get out before it gets worse.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterEnough Already!

People here really need to back off the Brett Favre kool-aid. He was a great player for the organization but his time is over. Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy proved last year that they know WAY more about football and personel than we do. So shut up about all the negative TT and MM posts. Most people were ready to push Brett Favre out of town 2 years ago and now that he has one good year, he's magically gonna lead the Packers to the Super Bowl at 39 years old! Do you know how dumb half of you sound trying to make that kind of argument?

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRay

Yeah, one good year. He was thrown under the bus the previous two years by TT who was 'rebuilding' the team and let two All-Pro OL go, even though keeping one would have been easy. He had no marquis receivers and only Driver was 'good'. TT didn't go after Moss, despite a good chance to get him. Favre may be 39, but he was our best chance to reclaim last year's momentum. Rodgers will do OK, but is that good enough? We'll see, but I do doubt it.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterthorshammer

Tony, you do not even live in GB, how can you even make any statements from the North Shore of Chicago. Your nothing more than a weasal trying to make money off stirring up peoples feelings. People should know that this is just a publicity charade on your part to increase traffic to your lame site. Get a real job Tony. Your a shameless fake.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterandy warhol

Dear Andy Warhol,
You unknowing jerk.
Where do you see the money making scheme in all of this? Tony has made $0.00 off of this. He has used his own money and vacation days to pull this together. In addition he has relied on a few anonymous donors to help support the effort. Further, he has driven around the state of Wisconsin collecting petition signatures. He is the exact opposite of a shameless fake. Did you spend any time with him gathering signatures? Didn't think so. Well I did. So go back to your bitter world and do us all a favor by never re-visiting this wonderful site that he has generously made available to Packer and Favre fans.

August 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPackerBacker

Tony,

Brett said that he wants Rodgers to start. He never said he wouldn't allow the Pack to bench him.

Do me a favor and shut this site down and go back to Chicago. Quite making shit up to start something.

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJ-Man

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN AND WHERE THE NEXT EXSPANSION TEAM COMES OUT?? I NEED A NEW TEAM MY OLD ONE IS DISHONEST,CORUPT,IDIOTS,LYING DOGS

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergunny

Brett retired (even cried when doing so) - enough is enough. Hasn't he been contemplating retirement for the last couple of years? I was impressed that he finally got the intestinal fortitude to do so (or so I thought) and now this. It appears he has a difficult time making up his mind. I believe, since he retired, he needs to go to Mississippi and stop giving the good people and fans of Wisconsin a bad feeling about football. If he truly loved the team, he would have remained retired and enjoyed time with his family making millions just off his name.

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterfedup

Brett - it's one thing to cry to the people of Wisconsin and say you are tired, it's another to change your mind. Why don't you do what you probably had in mind when you retired the first time - got to Mississippi and shoot wild boars, hunt and fish. You are giving the Packers such a bad name and it is indeed your problem - leave for the sake of the Packers.

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterfedup Cheesehead

Question to ponder....if Brett was such an "awesome" player that so many of you truly believe will lead your team to the almighty Super Bowl at the end of the season...why then has only 2 teams come forward for trading talks? Only 2?? Come on! Everyone would be scrambling to find a way to bring him to their town! Shut this website down and get back to work everyone!

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterEnough Already!

"i am selling all my packer stuff on ebay"
" i'm giving up my season tickets"
"i'll wear the oth er team's jerseys"

1. I'll buy your stuff on ebay
2. Send those season tickets my way
3. Nobody will care or notice your lack of packer jersey

There will be no shortage of packer fans to take your season ti ckets and your jerseys. Obvioiusly you were never a packer fan, but just a Brett Favre fan. I love Brett, but i'm a Packers fan first, and always will be.

Rodgers is now

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterGary

Again Tony - THANK YOU !!! GB management is handling this very poorly - TT needs to apologize to Brett and ask him to quarterback the GB Packers - if not TT should lose his job. GO BRETT!!

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterClaudia

Last time I checked, Thompson was the GM and Brett was the player. Just because your a legend in ones franchise doesn't mean they have to listen to you.

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJ-Man

Anybody who says they're not going to be a Packer fan because of this isn't a real Packer fan anyway.

I kinda doubt that the Packers lost many fans when Vince Lombardi let Paul Hornung go to the Saints. Hornung helped bring more championships to the Packers than Favre did!

I agree with the other guy that says if Brett Favre is still the great player he was, then why do only 2 teams want him?

Favre was a product of the system and a good receiving corps last year. Get over it!!

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRay

i see my previous comment was removed. i will restate that brett was offered the opportunity to join the team and compete for the starting job but declined the offer, saying he was too mad at management to play for the packers. he turned green bay down, not the other away around.

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTENN PACKERFAN

My condolences to all Green Bay fans that are smart enough to know your best chance to win are with brett favre. I have spent years despising but respecting his mastery at the postition of quarterback. Now, I cannot believe your organization is going to give him up for Aaron F-ing Rodgers. Absolutely insane but you will still be able to root for your boy in the pewter and red, in the superbowl, in Tampa this year. Thanks MCcarthy for taking every inch of what is sacred about the NFL away from your team. GO BUCS!!

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKilnbucfan

obviously kilnbucfan has limited intellectual capacity-see my previous comment-farve walked away from the packers-they did not send him away-brett's own words make that perfectly clear

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTENN PACKERFAN

Nice run-on sentence my intellectual superior. Now watch Brett kick your ass as a Buc in Raymond james. You know where Kiln is dipshit? I don't give a fuck how he left, just happy he's gonna be a Buc. HAVE A GOOD 3-13 YEAR!!

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKilnbucfan

it is true that i am your intellectual superior. i am also your superior when it comes to class. you have none as indicated by your foul language. yes i know where kiln is. i expect green bay to win at tampa and to win their division. i expect you will have a sad year as a bucs fan.

August 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTENN PACKERFAN
